Welcome to Saint Nicholas School

an independent day school for boys and girls aged from 4 to 16 years.

Saint Nicholas School was established in 1939 in the heart of the attractive hamlet of Churchgate Street. The school quickly built up a reputation as a caring institution and a centre of educational excellence. A move to Hillingdon House in 1977 and an ambitious building programme allowed for gradual expansion of the school to its present size of over 380 pupils.

The school is situated in delightful gardens and grounds which extend to more than 14 acres. Infants, juniors and seniors are each housed in their own area, within close proximity of each other, enabling good access to shared facilities. The school is appropriately equipped with specialist classrooms, science laboratories, technology areas, ICT rooms and both senior and junior libraries, with a new theatre soon to be constructed. Sports facilities include extensive playing fields, tennis courts, heated swimming pool and a magnificent sports hall.

Saint Nicholas School is selective, but pupils with a relatively wide range of ability are accepted. They are provided with excellent learning opportunities, have their progress carefully monitored, receive additional help when required and are provided with support for their non-academic and personal needs so that they learn quickly and well. The school’s philosophy is based upon a commitment to sound moral principles and a view of education as an all-round preparation for life. Academic work is given strong emphasis and, equally, sound guidance in personal development is seen as an integral part of a good education.

A team of experienced staff teaches a full range of academic subjects and class sizes are kept relatively small, thus ensuring that each pupil has the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential. Staff, pupils and parents value highly the undoubted positive ethos of the school and Saint Nicholas is a school which pupils are happy to attend. All members of staff strive to maintain a well-structured, positive environment in which pupils feel secure and are encouraged to do their best at all times.
