Chinese New Year

Happy Lunar New Year!

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Chinese New Year in their music lessons. They learnt that the celebrations include putting up decorations, eating a family reunion dinner, the giving of red envelopes and gifts, lighting firecrackers and fireworks, and watching lion and dragon dances. They also learnt that 2022 is the Year of the Tiger.

As part of their learning, Reception children sang a Chinese New Year song, learned a dragon dance and sang and danced like a tiger. Year 1 pupils also sang a Chinese New Year song, learned a dragon dance and made a red lantern to sing and dance with. Meanwhile, Year 2 pupils clapped Chinese rhythm patterns, each taking a turn to lead the class, moved to some Chinese music like a Chinese Dragon, while beating a drum and waving their rhythm ribbon sticks. They even took their dance into the playground, waving their ribbons high and low, fast and slow, in front and behind, pretending they were moving like the Chinese dragon. The children have had a lot of fun!
