Last Thursday, Year 3 pupils had an action packed day at Celtic Harmony where they learned the skills needed to be a Celtic Chieftain.
The children collected ancient Celtic runes on the woodland treasure trail in order to solve the riddle, before some archery target practise where their expert aim won them some gold coins. After creating a Celtic torc from reeds, they painted their faces with woad to be ready for battle.
Every chieftain needs to keep their energy levels up, so after refuelling, they took part in archery hunting practise. Having earned more gold coins, they traded them for precious goods in the shop.
The final skill required to be a chieftain was fire lighting – something that took great patience and many attempts, but thankfully every group was successful! The children returned to school as fully qualified and enthusiastic (if a little tired!) Celtic Chieftains.
