Year 11 GCSE Presentation Evening

Thursday 4th February 2010

We were delighted to welcome back last year’s Year 11 pupils and their parents at the GCSE certificate presentation evening this week. The cohort were the school’s first double-entry senior year and it was a marvellous opportunity to acknowledge their outstanding academic success as well to reflect on all that they contributed to Saint Nicholas in their time here.

This was the first time the school had held such an evening and we look forward to it being a major annual event in the future.

Haiti Earthquake Appeal

Over £3000 raised in one day!

As a school we can all be proud of what we achieved with our fund raising event of Friday 22nd January – not just because of the funds raised, but also because of the superb community atmosphere of the event itself. The office staff (Mrs Newland, Mrs Bradley and Miss Kurton) gave lots of help, as did Mrs Hitch and the Friends Fund Raising Committee.

A book sale, cake sale and a sale of unwanted Christmas gifts was arranged and the pupils had a non-uniform day in return for a contribution to the appeal. It was a brilliant coming together of the whole school community, with teachers, parents and children all working together, and I felt proud to be part of this community. Starting with Mr Knight, who I shared my idea with just moments before his weekly staff briefing on Friday 15th January, everyone gave their immediate support. I thank everyone for that, and for bringing it all together in such a short space of time.

I’m sure the pupils of our school will benefit from the knowledge of the plights of others, and that they can, indeed, provide some help. It was a great school event with a satisfying outcome. A fantastic £3,260 raised in one day!

A special mention should be made of class 4F who raised the largest amount for the non-uniform collection, and to Lucy Moyler who completed a sponsored silence raising £110 with help from her brother. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way. Well done!
